British soprano Kayleigh McEvoy has just completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, under the tutelage of Marilyn Rees. Next year, she will be continuing her studies on Guildhall’s Masters in Performance course.
Kayleigh was delighted to have recently won the 2017 Essex Young Musician of the Year competition, last year she was also the winner of the Freda Parry Scholarship competition.
Kayleigh is a keen advocate of concert and oratorio repertoire, her recital work having taken her throughout the UK and Europe. She made her London operatic debut in 2016 as the Fox in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen (abridged.) This year, Kayleigh has performed an extensive number of vocal recitals, most recently for the Waltham Singers Opera Gala where she sang excerpts from operas such as: La Traviata, Rusalka, Gianni Schicchi, Cavalleria Rusticana and Le Nozze di Figaro. Within Guildhall’s opera scenes she has also performed roles such as, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, and Witch 1 in Dido and Aeneas. Other previous roles include, The Plaintiff in Trial by Jury, Constance in The Sorcerer, Peep Bo in The Mikado and Tessa in The Gondoliers.
In London, Kayleigh has had the opportunity to work with renowned coaches and conductors such as; Daniel Barenboim, Gustav Dudamel, Graham Johnson, Sarah Walker, and Mary Plazas.
Kayleigh has also recently started expanding her New Music repertoire. Earlier this year she performed in the world premiere of The Tale of Januarie. She has also worked closely with Jane Manning over the past six months on a selection of new pieces written by 20th Century composers. In association with the Courtauld Gallery, earlier this year Kayleigh performed a newly commissioned piece written especially for her based on one of their paintings by Lucian Freud.
This year Kayleigh was thrilled to record a new selection of songs in collaboration with New Hall School. The CD will be available for purchase later this year.
Over the coming season, Kayleigh will be touring a production of La Boheme in which she will be covering the role of Musetta with Barefoot Opera. Details of performances can be found under the diary tab above.
Kayleigh is grateful to have the support of the St.Mary Barnes Trust.
