Penny Cliff

Penny Cliff is the artistic director of The Tell Theatre Company.

The Tell Theatre Company was started in 2011 by Penny Cliff and Sejul Malde.

The Tell is a group of theatre-makers staging plays by exciting writers who say big things about being alive now.
“We want to make audiences think, feel and laugh. We are interested in neglected classics.

Sometimes we choose plays on a theme to curate over a season – we’ll be doing more plays about MARRIAGE in future.

We are building a new writing programme where new work is produced in response to a classic text
We want discover and produce new voices from all over the world.”

In Penny’s own words:
As Artistic Director of THE TELL THEATRE COMPANY I’ve created 3 exciting productions in under a year with a group of talented theatre artists.

With a broad theatrical background spanning opera, playwriting, forum, audio work and making theatre in communities, I continue to bring vision, energy and commitment to this challenge.

The company now seeks funding and partnerships: current plans include development of our education work, a community production inspired by Lorca, a Shakespeare project and a new look at a neglected Gogol play.

I am a freelance director and interested in discussing projects, especially new writing and classics.

As a successful freelance writer and tutor I am expanding my work with writers and offer a script advice service.

Specialties: Directing, playwriting, producing, dramaturgy, facilitating, forum theatre, musician (cellist and pianist), audio programme maker.
