Philippa Dow

Philippa Dow has worked as a professional artist since 1986.

Her style is unique and modern, drawing from a rigorous [traditional] art school education. She studied printmaking and calligraphy at Colchester School of Art and Central St Martin’s, London.

Recent commissions include a wall painting for a pool house [66.7M2] a calligraphed and painted bedroom wall, a commemorative headstone, garden planting schemes, calligraphed poems for New Ventures West U.S.A., calligraphy for the National Trust, Books of Remembrance for various churches and numerous paintings and calligraphy for private clients.

Works hanging in public spaces include the New Hall Collection of Women’s Art at the Murray Edward’s College, Cambridge, Colchester Town Hall, Osaka University, Japan.

She has exhibited at group exhibitions and has had several solo exhibitions, most recently working on a collaborative exhibition with music for the Pimlott Foundation.

Philippa has taught at the Colchester School of Art, Clacton School Art and the Flatford Field Study Centre. Tuition is available for small groups on the third Thursday of the month and one-to-one tuition can also be arranged.

Copper Jug with Honesty Seeds, a large watercolour, was the winner of the Neil D’Arcy Jones prize at the Colchester Art Society’s Open Exhibition in 2010 and the project for a new pool building including the specialist wall painting won a Suffolk Association of Architects Craftsmanship Award.

Prices for individual pieces range from £50 to £1000 (excluding postage, packing, delivery) and can be sent unframed to anywhere in the world.
