Tomoko Iwashita

Tomoko Iwashita’s music career started with the piano, when she was 3 years old, and also the flute, when she was 12 years old.

She graduated from Tokyo University of Music and Arts, with a Masters in Arts.

In 1983, she was awarded the prize of the Western Japan Newspaper Company. In 1988, she finished a Masters Course at the Music College of Detmold in Germany as a scholar of DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst).

In 1988, she won the 2nd prize at the International Music Competition of Trieste(Duino) in Italy. Her flute-repertoire is wide, spanning baroque to contemporary music. Tomoko specialises in virtuoso pieces for flute. Not only does she play in Japan, but also in Germany, England, France, Holland, Italy, China, Taipei and South Korea.

She has played at various music festivals, including Salzburg and Norwich. She has also given solo recitals on NHK-FM radio. She enjoys a broad range of musical activities as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. She is currently a lecturer at Musashino Music College in Tokyo.
